Lawnmower Racing: Basic FAQ
Lawnmower racing is a sport that is gaining popularity all over the United States. Riding lawnmowers
are modified in order to race. This sort of racing is only for fun, not for money. How do you find
out more? You can visit the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association's website, at www.letsmow.com. There
you can find out where you can find local races in your area, and obtain the official rulebook of lawn
mower racing.
These are some basic points to consider:
Do not use your personal lawn mower that you use to mow the lawn. Causing your personal mower to go faster
can cause some major safety issues!
Only lawn mower engines are allowed. However, depending on the class you are racing in, you can modify the
engine. There are four different classes, Stock Class, IMOW Class, Prepared Class, and FX Class.
The blade on the mower must be removed before racing your lawn mower!
Always wear safety equipment before racing. Helmet, long pants and long sleeved shirts, gloves, and neck
support that's approved by the USLMRA. This is very important for safety reasons while racing.
Children ages 16 and 17 may race with parents permission, but the basic age to race is 18 years old.
Are you more of a spectator than a racer who would rather enjoy watching the races? You can watch it not
only
locally by finding a USLMRA chapter in your area, but also by watching ESPN2. You can also find video
and pictures on the USLMRA website, basic rules, and learn how to join the organization to get involved
in the lawn mower racing movement.
Remember, fun is great, but safety is most important! Do not modify your home mower to go faster than
it's meant to go, or you may risk serious injury.
