Racing Stripes: A Movie Review

The movie, "Racing Stripes" was released in 2005 to movie theaters across the country. The all star cast includes the greats such as Joe Pantoliano as "Goose," Frankie Munez as "Stripes," Whoopi Goldberg as "Franny," Dustin Hoffman as "Tucker," and Mandy Moore is featured as "Sandy."

Stripes is a zebra who was abandoned by a traveling circus when he was only a baby. He's taken in by a farmer, and becomes a part of a lovable family full of animals who seem to be led by Goose. The characters in thsi movie all are trying desperately to avoid the hot weather in New Jersey.

Stripes becomes enthralled with the racetrack, and decides that he is destined to be a racehorse. What he doesn't realize is that he's a zebra, and not a horse at all. However, he decides to train, and becomes very devoted to his new passion.

This movie has gotten mixed reviews. Some find that it's a fantastic family film, great for all ages. Even though the film is accused of being simplistic, some also find that to be part of the charm that the movie holds. The movie is also accused of being predictable, but the fans of the movie don't seem to mind. The message that the movie provides, "it's okay to be different", is a message that is a comfort to many, and is one that kids should continue to hear throughout their lives.

However, some find "Racing Stripes" to be too predictable, poorly written, and even "crass". Because of this, the movie did receive poor ratings among newspapers and other periodicals throughout the country upon it's initial release. It's also been criticized for it's likeness to the movie, "Babe".

However, despite criticism, families all over the United States seem to enjoy this movie greatly, finding it's message to be comforting for children, as well as finding the movie as a whole to be incredibly amusing.
